National EXCO Meeting in Jos - April 2008

Submitted By National Secretary on 13-06-2008, 3:51pm

The National EXCO of the Alumni met in Jos on 26th April 2008. Highlights of the meeting are as follows:

  • Registration of the National Association: The Legal Adviser of the association, Barr. Okechukwu Ajunwa informed the house that the delay in registering the National Association was as a result of lack of appointment of members of the Board of Trustees. This had however been corrected at the Port Harcourt 2007 convention. Members are therefore adviser to pls send in their passport photographs so that registration can be completed. The members of BOT are:
  1. Judith Mamven
  2. Valentine Odu Thomas
  3. Dr. Oche Agbaji
  4. Dr. Prieye Fiebai
  5. Alfred Abah
  6. Abdul Abdallah
  • Public Private Partnership: Members were informed that the PPP initiative of the erstwhile administration of President Obasanjo had been suspended. Despite this, the Unity Schools Old Students Association (USOSA) that was involved in the scheme on our behalf was still functional, and waxing stronger. Members are enjoined to participate in activities of USOSA.
  • Funding the National Association Account: There was a consesus that a National Account should be open at Diamond Bank. Thereafter our Legal Adviser donated a sum of N10,000 to facilitate the opening of the account. More donations and contributions are welcome from all members, at home and abroad. It will help the national EXCO be more effective and efficient in running the association.
  • Review of the Port Harcourt Convention: The Port Harcourt convention was adjudged to be the most successful of all conventions held so far, espcially in terms of attendance and funds raised. A Project Committe was formed to undertake a project in our alma mater as our own contribution to improving the infrastructural decay in the school.
  • Meeting with Vice-Principal 1: The EXCO paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Principal 1 and briefed her on activities of the association and our proposed 2008 convention scheduled to hold in Jos sometime in November 2008. The Vice-President of the National Association speaking on behalf of the Jos Branch expressed their displeasure at the school authority for not inviting them for special activities of the school, even when they had their contact information. The Vice-Principal apologized for the oversight and promised to rectify the situation.

The National EXCO will meet again later this year as plans gear up for the upcoming National Convention in Jos. It's promises to be even bigger and better than the PH convention. Watch this column constantly!
